Meet the Cordova Twins

The Cordova Twins:

Jordan (pronounced JOR-den, in Biblical & English derived from (yarad) meaning "descend" or "flow down". It is also the name of the river which flows between the countries of Jordan and Israel where Jesus Christ was baptized by John the Baptist).

Jacob (pronounced JAY-kep, in English and Biblical means "holder of the heel" or "supplanter", and (Ya'aqov'el) meaning "may God protect". In the Old Testament, Jacob (later called Israel) was the son of Isaac and Rebecca and the father of the twelve founders of the twelve tribes of Israel. He was born holding his twin brother Esau's heel)

Jacob & Jordan 3-20-10

Family, Friends, Prayer Warriors,

Today was Jordan's second day on the fluid reduction to better help her breathing and 1st attempt to manual closing of the PDA by Lasix diuretics.

It is still too soon to see if the diuretics are working yet. The only noticeable change so far is that Jordan has lost some weight. We have been assured that it is a healthy weight loss though, given she may have had some fluid in her lungs. As more of the excess fluid is drained off by Jordan's now more frequent urination's, the breathing should slow down and help the PDA close. Another Echo Cardiogram and chest X-ray is scheduled for later this next week to see the actual results and next steps.

Jordan's official report for today is:
3 lbs. 15 oz
21% - 23% FIO2, with 2 Liter flow nasal cannula
33 CC's fortified milk
0 dirty diaper
5 wet diapers
0 brady episodes
0 desat
3 CC residuals
daily dose Lasix diuretics

We also received word today that Jacob has a hernia in his lower right quadrant, and as a result, his left testicle is starting to swell. The good thing is, he is not in any pain, so for now, it is something that we and the doctors will watch. If Jacob's condition worsens, or he starts showing signs of distress, his situation will be re-assessed and proper treatment considered. Right now, given Jacob's continuous growth out of prematurity, the doctor would like more weight and age to occur before the surgery takes place, and it is common practice that patients who have this condition go home to age a little more and bulk up. However, this is something that cannot right itself, so the surgery will have to take place, or it will cause serious bowel and intestinal problems down the road. The doctors and I are confident though that this will be a routine surgery with successful results, and I am reminded of my cousin's youngest son had this same issue, had the surgery to correct the issue, and is fine now (he is two, and a very active child).

Jacob's official report for the day is:
3 lbs. 6 oz.
1 brady episodes
0 desats
25% FIO2 on the nasal cannula, with 1 liter flow
29 CC's of fortified milk
2 dirty diaper
6 wet diapers
0 CC's residuals

Even though these hurdles are making themselves known in the babies, both are still showing very good signs of growth and development. We will continue to pray for their successes as it gets closer to their original due date and ask that you continue to keep them in your prayers as well.

Thank you for all of your love, prayers and thoughts! More progress reports soon!

Kind regards,
