Family, Friends, Prayer Warriors,
The twins continue to make progress. Each one is adjusting to their new environment and situations well.
This morning, Jordan had progressed far enough along that she was moved from her isolet to a crib. She was a little uneasy at first, but she seems to be handling the change well.
Also, she is still on the nasal cannula and doing very well. She remains at 1 liter flow, has only had 2 brady episodes today, is back at 21% Room Air, and is getting 31 CC's of fortified milk. She has had 6 wet diapers, 4 dirty diapers averaging 1-2 CC's residual, and still getting 7.5 mg. caffeine. Overall, she is doing very well. The nurse for the evening plans to bathe her, and weigh her at 3 AM, so I'll have to get you her weight on the next report. (Sorry everyone)
Jacob continues to improve as well. He is now off of the lipids and TPN and has had his PICC line taken out. Also, he is now on full feeds (19 CC's non-fortified milk) and is handling that well with an average of 1-2 CC's residuals. He has had 1 brady episode today, is also at 21% Room Air, weighing in at 2 lbs. 14 oz., getting 6 mg. caffeine, and 1 liter flow. His wet/dirty diaper count for today was 5 wet diapers, and 4 dirty diapers. Yesterday, he was having a slight amount of difficulty with his nasal cannula; the irritation was giving him some nose bleeds, which was contributing to his brady episodes (I never got the official count, but I'm told it was a lot). Once the nurses suctioned out all the dried blood and crusties and let him rest, he did a ton better and has continued that improvement onto today.
Some changes I have made to the blog today I would like to point out: I have added a few more blog websites to the blogs we follow section. First, our Pastor and friends Bryan Beaver and his family; they are good friends of ours and we are lucky to know them. Secondly, last weekend the hospital had two former patients come speak to some of the parents who had kids in the NICU: Kelly and John Sherrill. Sheri and I got to hear them share their experiences with the premature birth of their youngest son, Kyle, who was born 1 pound 3 ounces at his 23rd week of gestational age. Their story and Kyle's are astounding, and I strongly recommend you visit their blog site if you have a moment.
Finally, I added a You Tube section to the page which features 4 different videos pertaining to the inspirational speaker and Virtual Reality scientist, Dr. Randy Pausch. Dr. Pausch's lecture, "The Last Lecture" or "Really Achieving Your Childhood Dreams" was given at Carnegie Mellon on September 18, 2007. This was a man dying of Pancreatic Cancer, who was wanting to leave a lasting legacy to his family portraying who he was, his zest for life, and the small desire to relay to a captive audience that you really can achieve your wants and desires if you work at them hard enough, but one thing that must be kept in check is your humility. I have found myself many times, watching and re-watching this lecture whenever I am down, confused, or simply need a reality check to put things in perspective. And, from Kelly and John's visit to the NICU last week, I have been very fortunate to have 2 things to draw strength from. I highly recommend that both Dr. Pausch's Last Lecture videos watched at least once and Kelly and John's blog site be visited. You might be surprised and humbled at the unique and powerful messages each have to offer.
I'll report more soon!
Kind regards,
The Cordova Family (Andy, Sheri, Jacob & Jordan)
